Glen Eden Healthy Kai

Glen Eden Healthy Kai is an innovative programme that enables shoppers in the Glen Eden suburb of Waitakere to identify the healthiest ready-to eat food choices on offer using a specially designed logo.

The aim of the programme is to encourage shoppers to think twice about the lunch or snack foods they are buying and choose a healthier choice.

A shopper survey carried out before the launch of the programme found that while 86% of those surveyed could name the lowest fat choice out of a group of ready to eat foods, only half selected a healthy choice for their meal or snack.

The programme will actively encourage the healthy choice option with the logo and promotional material is available at local retailers. The local community has also got in behind the programme with local schools, health centres and other agencies being involved in the programme.

Glen Eden Healthy Kai is a collaborative programme by Auckland Regional Public Health Service, HealthWest PHO, New Lynn Community Board, The NZ National Heart Foundation, Health Promoting Schools (Waitemata District Health Board), Wai Health and Pacific Island Heartbeat.
