Welcome to Mantra
Minimize

Mantra is a Sanskrit word combining the two syllables: ‘Man’ - meaning mind; and ‘tra’ - meaning deliverance. Mantra is a powerful and pure sound intended to deliver the mind from illusions and material inclinations. Mantras are chanted with ‘108 beaded’ rosaries (seen on each table at the restaurant). In the ancient Vedic era, sages would chant the ‘Fire Mantra’ to light fire for cooking food- food that is pure and healthy.

We at Mantra do not light fires in the same way, but can guarantee that the food prepared in our kitchen is as pure and real as it gets. Our chefs strive to craft and cook the most authentic and freshest food - Indian food, as it should be.

The journey of Mantra began in 1993. Bela, the owner, opened doors to a small restaurant in the foothills of the Himalayas in North India. ‘Mama's Rasoi’ (meaning Mother's Kitchen) became one of the most popular restaurants in the area in a couple of years. It grew from a humble restaurant to a resort spread over 4 acres. After running the restaurant successfully for 15 years, she decided to take a leap to New Zealand. This is when Mantra was conceived. It opened doors in December 2006. Now the same experienced and professional team are striving to give you real Indian food and a delightful dining experience.

Come in and try the ‘Mantra experience’ for yourself.
