20 September 2009,The Rhythm of Life Concert
What a wonderful event this was! Waitakere Voices held "The Rhythm of Life" Concert in conjunction with the Cantemus and Kumeu Blend choirs. Also featured were Swiss yodelling and the St Peter's College Clarinet Ensemble.
All 3 choirs met with a great reception and offered a variety of styles. The climax came when we joined together for the last 2 rousing numbers.
Having the Swiss yodelling and the clarinet ensemble added another dimension to the concert. The yodellers featured some amazing voices and the clarinet players displayed skill beyond their years.
The concert was performed in front of a packed audience at the Te Atatu Baptist Church.

18 September, 2009 August Rush Movie Night
A fantastic movie and dinner evening was held at the "Westwind" theatre in Riversdale Rd, Avondale, for choir members and their invited guests.
The movie was August Rush, a moving mixture of romance and music. It is an incredibly well put together movie, full of emotion, drama and wonderful music. A sign of just how good the movie was is how quiet we all were, even certain members of the choir who find it hard to keep quiet, including this reviewer and the evening's organiser.
For those who did not come and want to find out a little more, click here for a review or here to see clips from the movie.
The roast dinner served prior to the movie was delicious, perfectly tender with crisp roast potatoes and soft pumpkin. We had a great variety of desserts brought by the choir and most of us were too full full to eat the popcorn kindly provided by our committee secretary for the movie. Some of us suffered bruising from flying Freddos, but everyone enjoyed a great movie and a great evening.
