Welcome
President's welcome.
Welcome all members and visitors to our website.
Our club is in its 12th year now, and as we know, every president brings her/ his ideas and style along and in this way all our past presidents have contributed to the growth of our club.
My vision is to inject some fun and laughter into our meetings, find interesting speakers and have enjoyable outings, all this with input, suggestions and ideas from members.
I am assisted and supported by a great committee. Together we will work to make this year a memorable and exciting one.
Visitors are welcome at all our regular club meetings at a minimal cost. Our club has a membership ceiling of 125. This currently means that prospective members have to be placed on a waiting list, but don’t let that stop you from coming along and enjoying yourselves.
Kind regards, Hans van Beek.
Probus background and aims, by Murray Keir, secretary.
What is Probus.
Probus club is a local association of retired or semi-retired professional and business people – and others who have had some measure of responsibility in any field of worthy endeavour – who are of good character and respected in their communities. The name Probus is an amalgam of the words PROfession and BUSness. Probus is also a Latin word meaning honest and virtuous, from which the English word “probity” is derived. Clubs meet monthly for fellowship, morning tea, a short business session and to hear an interesting guest speaker. They also arrange on a regular basis, visits to interesting places usually with a lunch stop as well as possibly picnics or barbecues in the summer months. A Probus club is run by its members and must be non-political and non-sectarian. Officers are elected annually. The President holds office for one year and is normally replaced the following year by the current Vice President. The club operates within the standard Probus Club Constitution (and by-laws) adopted by the members and is accredited by the Probus Centre – South Pacific. Probus clubs are not service clubs and don’t raise funds or make a profit. They charge moderate membership fees sufficient to cover operating expenses.
Murray Keir, secretary from 2008 till present.
